Punta Cana

Punta Cana

I visited the Dominican Republic on a typical spring break trip. I’d imagine there are other ways to visit that could be more relaxing and upscale.

EXPERIENCE

While in the Dominican be sure to leave the beach and snorkeling for a cultural excusion. Similar to other islands I have visited, this can be alarming because the disparity between the decedent resorts and the way residents actually live is quite alarming. We enjoyed seeing the towns and farming communities where sugar cane serves as a critical crop.

Balance this with some adventurous excursions. We did a hike with waterfall jumping which was fun as well as a snorkeling trip via small boats. This proved much rougher than we had anticipated, so I’d suggest checking the weather, as the boats seem to go out regardless of conditions.

STAY

Without having experienced a wide range of resorts, I cannot recommend a specific one. Specials and spring break deals seem to abound, and cheapcarribean.com seems to run fairly legitimate bargains and all non-peak times. I would start here if planning an all inclusive quick getaway.

EAT

Tropical fruits, coconuts, and sugar cane abound. Most of the properties are all inclusive with a range of quality, like anywhere, you get what you pay for.
