Dubrovnik

Dubrovnik

Though my stay was short, I loved Croatia, a stormy, cozy, little city. We arrived amidst a raging rain storm that made the sea particularly wild and romantic as we walked the city’s perimeter from above.

EXPERIENCE

I visited Dubrovnik while on a Mediterranean cruise with my family in May of 2010. We had a very quick stop in this walled city, but it is a place I desperately wish to return to and explore more of. While here we walked the 13th century City Wall and took in the beauty of the rough seas and they splashed against the ancient city walls. Walking the cobblestone narrow roads through the city, there are many great art shops and local cafes to spend a day investigating. The city reminded me of Prague in many ways, it feels untouched by time.

Another historic stop while in Dubrovnik is the Gothic-Renaissance Rector’s Palace. If you have time, the Franciscan Monastery and Museum are worth seeing as well as the Cathedral of the Assumption of the Virgin. The main square of the city is the center of action, with street vendors and lots of local color. This was unfortunately just a day stop for me, but Croatia is back on the list as a future destination. Would love tips and recommendations for other Croatian cities and points of interest. I will be back!
